Our flying site now has twelve airplane starting benches.
These can be easily towed to the top of the hill in case of spring time
flooding.
Benches are to be towed three at a time with the quarter scale
benches always at the end of the train and only one quarter scale in each group
of three. It will only take three trips to bring them all to the shed area
during a flood. The special tow bar can be found hanging on the peg board
in the new tractor shed. It will have a pin on either end.
A video in QuickTime format can be found by
clicking here. Note that it is a 4MB file
and may take a while to download.
Instructions for towing:
- Locate one of the three benches with the tractor towing
mechanism. They will have two metal brackets a the back of the
starting bench. (picture #1)
- Using the three point hitch on the tractor and the
special tow bar to connect the starting bench. Raise the three point
hitch to get proper clearance. (picture #1)
- Attach a second bench by using the hold down stake and
pinning it to the table. Note that some stand off blocks will be
provided to ensure that the pin does not hit the ground during towing.
(picture 3)
- Attach a third bench in the same fashion as the second.
Note that only one quarter scale can be towed at a time and should be the
last bench on the train.
- Double check to make sure that the front of each bench
will not hit the ground during towing.
- Slowly drive the tractor up to the shed area. Do
not attempt to backup. Use large turning radius to avoid binding.
During a flood, please also make sure you transport the picnic
tables, sitting benches and chairs up to the shed area to avoid having them
float off. There is a small 4x8 trailer that an be used with the tractor
to aid in the transportation.
